Here we have the body fur of the Snowshoe Hare, not including the mask. Skins come in brown or white. Only the guard hairs change color from summer to winter. The under fur which makes excellent dubbing is always gray.
These skins have many uses but the most popular is Zonker or Cross-cut strips. A very popular fly called the Zonker is constructed from strips of rabbit fur cut lengthwise with the body. Cross-cut strips are used in several shrew/mouse patterns that can be very effective for pike and large trout. More on this later
